What I’m up to Now:
Currently, I’m in the 2nd year of my PhD at ETH Zürich, under the supervision of Sebastian Huber.
1 sentence description of my current PhD work: I’m interested in novel approaches to the many-body problem, and using them to understand phases of strongly interacting models for electronic materials which possess higher symmetry interactions and multi-orbital degrees of freedom, and require studies beyond mean field theory.
More broadly, I’m trying to navigate the world of condensed matter and computational physics research, keeping my eyes open for exciting problems that I can contribute to. I’m keen to maximise my exposure to new experiments and techniques, both in Physics and in adjacent fields, and to fine tune my research taste, as well as my habits in thought and work.
Contact:
If you’d like to get in contact, either to collaborate, because you’re interested in doing a Semester or Masters project with me, or because you’d just like to get in contact, I suggest emailing me at: sabird[at]phys.ethz.ch . Consider this an open invitation. Feedback and ideas are welcome.
You can also find me on Twitter, if that floats your boat.
